On this Aracena tour from Seville we will know the Caves of wonders (Gruta de las Maravillas), the mining area of Riotinto and the Sierra Morena mountains, an area of great environmental value Biosphere Reserve by Unesco.
To begin the day, together with the guide we will leave Seville to head to the locality of Riotinto, with its famous mines and the Tinto River, known for the reddish color so characteristic of its waters. Here we will contemplate the Martian scenario offered by this mining area, created more than 5,000 years ago.
After this stop, we will continue our day trip to Sierra Morena mountains, an area of great environmental value declared a Biosphere Reserve by Unesco. We will tour this enclave of mountain villages where the bull bravo and the Iberian pig live in freedom, until we reach the town of Aracena, where we will visit its castle and the Gruta de las Maravillas, its main attraction.
The Gruta de las Maravillas (Caves of wonders) was discovered at the end of the 19th century and in 1914 it opened to the public as the first tourist cave in Spain. Its 12 caverns contain long corridors, stalactites and stalagmites arranged in wonderful patterns, in addition to the impressive Great Lake Hall.
Before returning to Seville, we will pass through La Peña de Arias Montano, an opportunity to explore the Mediterranean forest and other corners of the mountains such as the Almonaster Mosque the Real, the oldest in Spain.
